Epsilon Chapter's Annual Meeting a Great Success!

The Chapter’s annual meeting took place on Tuesday, February 4th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the College of Nursing lobby.  The meeting was attended by 40 members and began with a reception and refreshments.  A brief business meeting followed.  Janice Lanier, JD, RN presented a one-hour CE program on “Legal and Ethical Implications of Social Media and Professional Boundaries."  The meeting included a presentation of a scholarship award to Ashley Weber, PhD student and Epsilon member. We received great comments and feedback, as well as ideas for service opportunities that would enable Epsilon to reach out to our communities.  Thank you to all who participated!!

Ashley Weber presented with Epsilon Chapter's Scholarship Award

Ashley Weber was presented with the Epsilon Chapter's scholarship award on February 14 by Dr. Tim Landers, Scholarship Committee Chair for our chapter. As a staff nurse in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), Ashley was inspired to study the improvement of neurodevelopmental outcomes, particularly because research shows that 75% of extremely premature babies display atypical neurodevelopment at five years of age.
The scholarship will support Ashley's doctoral dissertation, which is the first in a series of studies addressing the impact of stress on outcomes mediated by the hormone oxytocin. Ashley will examine relationships between oxytocin levels and conditions of early infant experience that have been linked to neurodevelopmental outcomes in this population.
